A week or so ago, someone was looking for an automatic transmission for their Vanagon. I didn't pay much attention since all mine are manuals. However, I came upon an '87 Westy today that is in great physical condition with the exception of a problem with the automatic transmission (the differential is making noise). It has only 96k miles and has been owned since new by an older couple. (at 72-she and 80-he they don't want to go camping anymore. That means I have another 25 years!) Any chance that the supply of automatics out there exceeded the demand? The price on this vehicle is very reasonable if a transmission could be had inexpensively.
