Having read the original posts on this material, and in the process of adding A/C to a westy, I purchased some. I ran the info by a friend knowledgeable in A/C and other matters associated with this field (I am not an expert) just to be sure it was safe. It is not. This is a mix of propane and butane. It may be legal but certainly not something I want in my van. A real issue is if having the AC serviced by a tech unfamiliar with this material. He may use a flame type leak detector with catastrophic results. Propane was used many years ago as a refrigerant because of its outstanding thermal properties - but one drawback - it explodes when ignited (think fuel/air bomb). Thats why they don't use it anymore. I thought I would post this just in case some one was considering using ES-12. Just my opinion, hope it helps. John '84 Westaru |
