Stan + all, after dropping (+ fixing) 3 seats of my 80 Westy, I figured the AMC heads (which I got after the 1st 'drop' - GEX engine) are casted so poorly that the cooling air flow is restricted considerably compared with a VW head. You can actually see it by looking thru the head the way the air gets blown thru. When my 3rd seat dropped I got new VW heads (in Germany 'bout 10 yrs. ago, 1 still sitting in my living room). So by now I got 1 AMC (r.s.) + 1 VW head (l.s.) installed, and both equipped with a temp gauge: The AMC easily reaches 300F (controlling my driving style) while the VW reads 250... Just my 2cts... (yes, we got cts now too in Europe...) Mike, Germany 80 Westy 86 GL 86 Quantum 93 318t |
