If heat is a concern or you want an incredible selection of colors, visit your local theater supply store. Ask to see their selection of theater lighting gels. This colored plastic (historically called gels) is designed for environments of intense heat and comes in a mind boggling assortment of colors and color gradations. On the downside, you'll have to buy a huge sheet. Smaller scraps of the stuff can probably be found for free at your local community theater.
