Subject: Re: Low-Level Coolant Blinker
Content-Type: text/plain

Hi again all. This probably isn't a fix for the problem described, but I just wanted to pass it along anyhow. I'd had problems with my coolant level warning light blinking intermittently for seemingly no reason for some time, and I finally got fed up and tried to figure out what was up. Here's what I found... I had replaced the sensor a few years ago after ordering it mistakenly while trying to solve another problem. It wasn't quite the same as the one it replaced, but it fit and seemed to work just fine. Well, it turns out that the electrical connector on my '90 is not the same as the one on an '87 I looked at - the '90 has a little metal clip on it, and the '87 does not - it's just a plain push-on. The sensor I had installed was designed to be used with the plain push-on. Well, the connector is j-u-s-t different enough that it does makes contact, but b-a-r-e-l-y. And if disturbed at all, it breaks contact. This took about an hour to figure out with a multimeter and a paper clip, but now I know. Just another thing to check if you've got this problem.
