When my switch died it had a lovely habit of keeping the starter going even when the engine was running. The grinding noise was very disconcerting. I promptly bought a new switch (electricla portion only) from BusDepot. I also needed to purchase a cheapo puller from my local hardware store to be able to pull the spacer sleeve off the column. You'll need a 24mm socket (I think) to take off the steering wheel nut under the horn and a 6mm hex key to take off the ignition assembly.
