Get a flat strap battery carrier. Its an antique item that you'll use once and never use again cause your new battery will have a built in handle. I have used two pair of pliers and just gripped the terminals and lifted the battery out, heavy but it works if you've got enough grip. The whole process works better if you slide the seat off the rails and get enough room to work. On a Westy, rotate the seat to rear facing position.
