Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions on my power steering leak--I bought fluid and filled it back up yesterday, then went to a concert. Came out to the parking lot afterward and all of that fluid I'd just bought was all over the ground. I went ahead and took the belt off, and I figure I'll run it like this until I can get another rack in a couple of months. It is difficult to parallel park, but I could use the exercise!

Am I imagining things, or is there a slight gain in engine power without it?

thanks, Joe T. Denver, CO '85 GL 'action van' ----Original Message Follows---- From: BenTbtstr8@aol.com To: joetruss@HOTMAIL.COM, vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Power steering Date: Tue, 25 Jun 2002 17:40:55 EDT

Well, my 87 was driven by the DPO for over 6 years w/o any fluid. When I topped it up w/ PS fluid, she worked just fine until the fluid ran out again.

Got myself a good used rack for $125. Popped it in my driveway in a couple of hours. I know ti would have been much easier if the thing was jacked up. Had the thing aligned and I was done. Well worth the effort IMHO. No pun intended.
