I heard of this but it won't work on my Westy- I don't know why not.

I have had the Thule "tall foot" rack that mounts in the drip rails, to carry my canoe, since 1987. I've found that positioning the rear bar far enough back on the van allows enough clearance that I don't have to remove it to pop the top on my Westy. Of course, I remove the canoe first. ;>)
