Sounds to me like the glass simply came out of the mount that clamps the glass and connects it to the regulator.

You might take the door off and push it back in there and it might be fine for ages and ages. A zero cost fix.

It might pop out again. That's when I would start looking for adhesives to glue that glass to the clamp.

Either way a cheap fix.

I have not been in the door of a Vanagon. However I have been in the doors or LOTS of different cars. Maybe you will luck up and discover that the clamp has a bolt you can use to loosen up to open the clamp, and then tighten up to hold the glass tighter. I have seen this arrangement but I don't remember the make of the vehicle.

You might be able to use a bit of urethane (like a glass shop uses to seal up glass) to "glue" the clamp to the glass.
