Excuse me, I know the outrage is real, and the insurance company is
liable, but let us not forget that the people who caused the damage
apparently get off scott free because a 'friend lawyer' deemed them
'judgement proof???'

If/When someone destroys my property, they will not escape as 'judgement
proof' These people need to be taken to court, and if you found a real
lawyer, you would succeed in making their life as miserable as they have
made yours. They have a car, obviously, they are at home right now
watching cable TV for $40 a month, eating pizza, and bringing home some
kind of pay check, and you can bet your life they have at least one cell
phone. If they have no insurance, they are in violation of the law, which
is punishable, and the list goes on.... Hell, if one person can get a
circuit court to ban the Pledge of Allegiance, then you can screw these
people out of a good night's sleep for years to come. "judgement proof?"
C'mon........

True, life is sucky enough with your baby smashed and the insurance
company screwing you over, but to fail to prosecute to the fullest, the
people responsible for the damage, is tantamount to rolling over and
picking up the soap in the state prison. Be sure and cry out "please sir,
may I have another!"

Its hard to be too sympathetic when you are not going after the cause of
the problem.

While I am embarassing myself by ranting in public here, I put out the
question to everyone: Are you sure you  are covered for the value of your
Vanagon? Every year one or two of us ends up getting screwed over by the
insurance company, and we are all sympathetic, but in the end, we are
ultimately responsible for making certain that the agent knows what we
drive, and what our expectations will be during a claim. We all dutifully
send in our money every year, but do we ever call the agent and explain
our concerns that the vehicle will be properly repaired?

"Hello Insurance Agent Bob, I have a friend who owns the same year and
model Vanagon as I do, and his insurance is coming up short of all the
needed repairs from an accident. Perhaps we should visit my policy and
make sure I am covered up to my expectations."

If you have a two bedroom house, and you add three bedrooms and a bath
without mentioning it to the insurance agent, don't be upset when the
house burns down and the insurance will only rebuild a two bedroom house.

Much of our society is falling into decay because we do not take action
and responsibility until it is too late. Of all the people I know, this
group is one of the few that I expect would be on top of things like their
insurance coverage.

I mean no offense to anyone, especially our friend with the busted vanagon
face, but sometimes we can be our own worst enemies.
