Subject: ES-12 Refrigerant - Caution
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I use r-134 which cools marginally and if I thought es-12 would cool better and I was switching from r-12 I would not worry about the burning issue. First of all the amount of gas in comparison to the propane you are already carrying is small. It is in a sealed system without oxygen. If a leak develops the gas will dissipate quicky. If you are going to worry about es-12 you should not use the propane and for that matter the gas in your tank which represent a much greater hazard. gary

If its flamable its NOT legal for automotive use.

Bill --------------------------------- Having read the original posts on this material, and in the process of adding A/C to a westy, I purchased some. I ran the info by a friend knowledgeable in A/C and other matters associated with this field (I am not an expert) just to be sure it was safe. It is not. This is a mix of propane and butane. It may be legal but certainly not something I want in my van. A real issue is if having the AC serviced by a tech unfamiliar with this material. He may use a flame type leak detector with catastrophic results. Propane was used many years ago as a refrigerant because of its outstanding thermal properties - but one drawback - it explodes when ignited (think fuel/air bomb). Thats why they don't use it anymore. I thought I would post this just in case some one was considering using ES-12. Just my opinion, hope it helps.
