You can convert the switch to a two part switch using VW switch components. Usually what has happened is that the switch is overloaded and burns out the fan section of the switch. VW used a similar switch in several cars and this section can be replaced by disconnecting all the old wires and reconnecting them to a separate switch. You will need to drill a new hole in the dash to mount it. If the thermostat section of your dual switch is OK you can leave it wired up and just use the center dial to control the temperature that you want. If not you will need to purchase that switch as well which is common on the newer Vanagons with factory air and maybe some other VW's. If you are in Miami I went to the big VW dealer on the road toward the Keys I think it was Camelback VW and the parts department was very useful. The switch over to the new switch is easy I was able to do it in the parking lot with the exception of the hole in the dash. Good Luck Tony 85GL "Westfailure" |
