Katherine, I believe this is a standard feature on US-sold Westfalias. I have an '80 Westfalia and it has the stainless steel drainer you saw. I understand that in Canadian model this stainless steel protector cannot be separated from the stove top cover, but is always up. Why your Westfalia does not have this, I don't know.
