Now that my mother-in-law is out of the hospital, I can go back to finishing the head gasket replacement I started in May. Or I could if I could find the head nut that's still attached to the piece of broken head stud... Anyone in the Olympia or Tacoma, WA, area have a spare Vanagon head nut they'd like to be rid of? If I can ever get the broken stud out of there, I'll be able to button things together in short order. I've tried the stud remover they sell at Sears - it cut such shallow splines in the stud that turning it with a socket just honed the stud down a quarter of a mm or so. Next step will be the longest, thinnest vice grips I can find... Randy, Carla & Anna Huyck, Olympia, WA '75 Rustfalia '85 Vanagon GL '90 Fox GL '74 Super Beetle |
