It is probably better to subtract the overlap from the stated size than to measure the length because the sizing of v-belts seems to be somewhat nominal. Also, adjust all the auxiliary stuff so that they are at their minimum. This will give you some Kentucky windage on your measurement and also allow you to tension the belt once it has taken a set.
