I had one AMC and one VW head on my recently purchased '87 Westy. I had a reputable machine shop redo them ( triple cut the valves, new and I reinstalled them with no problems. While the List archives answer a lot of head related questions , many responders have replaced only one head at a time. Bear in mine that you will be replacing the other sooner or later.
