Supporting local retailers is all well and good in theory, but in the town I used to live in Wal Mart was a godsend. The local retailers were overpriced, had very poor selections, rolled up their sidewalks at 6 pm on weekdays, and weren't open at all on Sunday! Stores like Wal Mart are popular for a reason, people aren't just going to them out of spite.
