Alas, The original configuration of our '86 Westy is no more. I had the AutoStop valve replaced this morning with a generic fill valve and bleed vent. Cost was CA$40.00 for parts + CA$40.00 for 1 hour labour. The man who did the work said he has replaced hundreds of Auto Stops on both VWs and GMC camper vans. He was surprised ours lasted as long as it did. He said they were junk and many (both brass and aluminium) were replaced under warranty with VW. Anyone know if this service warranty would still be in effect (HA!)? Something I learned today. When he purged the tank then blew in a tiny bit of Methanol. It was a capful or so into the air nozzle. He said it will burn with the propane and remove any moisture from the tank. I feel much more comfortable with the new valve. No more leaving the van overnight at the Canadian Tire propane station.
