Well we finally got the waterleaker running after her head gasket replacement...which is another nightmare...and need to replace the PS rack boots. So we order them from the local VW shop and are given the wrong (manual steering) ones...2nd try..wrong ones again...both openings on the ends are waayyy too big. The owner of the VW shop said that they are the right ones listed for our '85 Westy...same story from another parts dealer. The end that goes over the tie rod on our rotten boot has an opening only large enough to squeeze your finger in. The other opening is appx. 2 inches in diameter. Both wrong sets of boots (manual steering made by VW) and power steering (made by AEI) from the repair shop have openings 1.5 to 2 inches in daimeter on both sides. My question is..does anyone have experience with these boots enough to tell me where I may find the right ones? I have the parts dealer stumped. Thanks! Tracey Estevez |
