Four Hydrogen atoms, when combined, produce a Helium atom plus a huge amount of energy. This process is called Hydrogen fusion, which powers the stars, including our sun. It produces much more energy than used in the production of Hydrogen through electrolysis. However it is not very practical at this time. You would need a vessel that could withstand about 100 000 000 degrees Celsius without melting. Perhaps if Cold Fusion is feasible (remember the excitement a while back), then all our energy problems would be solved. I'm not sure what happened to Cold Fusion research (I'm sure the oil companies had nothing to do with it). It is possible, sometime in the far future, peoples vehicles will be powered by water!
