Subject: Porsche 911 to Vanagon Engine/Tranny Swap
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed
Hello Fellow List Members,
I’d first like to say that I have already performed a fairly extensive
search on these topics in the Vanagon archive, as well as the web in
general. I am looking for more information, and actual people, who might be
able to fill in some of the blanks. I have some specific questions I need to
answers to.
I am preparing to install a 3.2 liter Porsche Carrera engine and G50
transmission in my 1987 Vanagon. I am gathering as much information as
possible at this time. Please don’t respond by trying to talking me out of
this – I already have the engine and many of the needed parts. I am well
aware of the swap kit offered by MSDS and I have spoken with the MSDS folks
already. Please don’t refer me to them. I am looking for sources of
additional information and other resources.
Questions:
1)Has anyone on the list actually installed a 911 engine using an MSDS kit?
2)Does anyone other than MSDS offer any sort of conversion kit or parts?
3)Has anyone on the list dealt with MSDS in the past?
4)Has anyone on the list installed a Porsche G50 transmission in a Vanagon?
5)Is anyone else seriously considering or planning such a swap?
6)Has anyone active on the list (I know about William Kennedy) installed a
Porsche 911 engine?
7)Does anyone know how I can contact William Kennedy (the e-mail addresses I
have tried don’t seem to work)?
8)Can anyone on the list refer me to someone that they KNOW has firsthand
knowledge of these things?
I would deeply appreciate any and all help anyone might be able to offer.
Please feel free to contact me off the List. Of course I will help anyone
that needs similar information.
I know that this will be a large undertaking. I fully plan on keeping the
List updated as to the progress of this project once it actually begins.
Thanks,
Bruce
