My name is Roy Randall. I'm new to the list and a new first-time owner of a '89 Westy. I've been doing a lot of learning of the last few weeks, but I've got a lot more to go. (1) It looks like the previous owner installed a deep cycle marine battery under the rear bench. It outputs to an inverter which is wired to 2 outlet strips at strategic locations. The battery has a convenient push button tester built in which presently reads 0%. I read about 10VDC at the terminals. When the engine is running I read a good 12+VDC at the terminals. The battery looks clean and relatively new. My question is: does this battery just need a good long drive to get charged? Or should I try to charge it with a charger? How likely is it that the thing is shot and needs to be replaced? (2) The PO also installed a gray water tank under the right side of the vehicle. The hose running to it leaks and needs to be replaced. The drain hole for the tank must have been bonked. There is just a round hole that probably used to have a short piece of pipe to hold a cap. It looks like the hole itself may be a bit damaged. Any good ideas on how to deal with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
