I though A-arm and Wishbone were the same thing but a listmember corrected me, sorry. I just pressed-in new wishbone bushings and then installed the wishbone back into my Vanagon following my beloved Haynes book instructions word for word.

The symptoms: When ever I apply the brakes I get one loud "lunk" sound coming from the wishbone area....Like its as if the spindle inside the wishbone was too skinny and theres excessive play in the wishbone. Im wondering if the bushings i installed are the wrong size, ARE VANAGON A-ARM BUSHINGS ALL THE SAME?(VANAGON YEARS) Do i need to tighten down on the spindle nut more? The book says "observe correct torque setting" but no torque specs are given. It also says, once the wishbone is installed, take it to a "VW alignment specialist"

Hey Thanks for reading this far, also the lower balljoint boot is rotted an split open and Ive got a new ball joint waiting but I think this ones out of my league. Im wondering if I should just let the local VW bus mechanic do it (he says its a two hour job which will be $110 in labor) I COULD try to do this one with my dads ugly old press and steel shims BUT THIS JOB looks mean and ugly....what should i do? I remember reading about someone getting a complete front suspension rebuild for $300 in Labor.

Thanks for your help,

Phil Stanhope 84'Westy Tiico
