Subject: Unable to Idle
Content-Type: text/plain

After replacing a cylinder head and spending several days trying to get my Westy to start again, I'm still unable to get my engine to idle, either hot or cold.

Is it possible that my intake manifold is leaking and causing a problem with no idle? When I took off left and right intake manifolds and then put them back on, I kind of jammed the intake manifold hoses up a bit. In my infinite wisdom, I was trying to put the driver-side intake manifold on the passenger side. So, the intake manifold hoses might be a bit stretched. Also, when I look in the Bentley manual, it appears that the intake manifold hoses have hose clamps on them. My intake manifold hoses have no hose clamps.

Should I run out and buy 8 pieces of 2" hose clamp in the hopes that eliminating leaks in the intake manifold will solve my problem with the engine not being able to idle?

Another thing I tried was to coat the fuel injection seals with a thin coating of hylomar sealant. The seals are cracked and I have to order new ones, but I'm trying to figure out what else I need before I place an order. With the hylomar, I don't think that the injection seals are leaking enough to cause the problem. They're probably not leaking at all right now. However, the intake manifold is quite possibly leaking.
