Hey Folks,

I have a VW Westy mystery on my hands I need help with. I own a 1986 Westy wolfy. I'd love to have AC up front, on my face. While contemplating how to do this, I came across this Westy on Orcas Island, in Washington state over the holiday.

Have a look.

I thought it might be a 1988 or so, from the fiberglass bumpers, tho Joel Walker correctly pointed out, the Wolfsburg patch on the front right fender. It might be a 1987.

Anyhow, I was really intrigued by the front vents. Similar to 1986 + GL's, minus the center ducting. The center dome/map light is a nice touch too.

Would anyone know if this is a stock configuration for a Westy? Or, does it look like a custom job? And, if so, how are they plumbing AC to it? The back had the standard AC vents below the pop up bed (slim line versions as opposed to my 1986 huge cabinet vents). Could there be ducting or tubing under the head liner on the left side above the drivers head?

I would love to be able to add front AC to my Westy like this ... but I was confused to know how this one works.

Any information would be a great help. For instance, if I had found this Westy in a salvage yard, would I be able to adapt this front duct to my 1986 and get cool air to it some how?

Just curious.... trying to stay cool in Oregon ....

thanks, dave bowers Portland, Oregon 1986 Westy "G2"
