   There is a hose on the automatic vanagon that cost
over $100.00.   The cost is because they sell so few
of them.   I have used the ford equavalent of the o2
sensor and it works no better nor no worse than the
vanagon eqivalent, read it and weap with the volt
meter.  Always check your work afterwards for a bad
connection.
  Most high cost are about stocking charges when it
comes to parts.   gary

With all the talk about generic O2 sensors, maybe
someone can answer
something that has been puzzling me for quite a while.

Are O2 sensors calibrated to give different response
curves?

How do we know that the Ford  O2 sensor is the same
calibration as the
Vanagon sensor, only with a different plug?  Maybe
someone decided
years
ago that these two sensors look alike and so they must
be the same,
except for the wiring.  Does anybody have any real
data that indicates
these are identical or at least similar in response?

Does anyone know of a reference for the performance
calibration of O2
sensors?  I've read many of the Bosch Fuel Injection
books available
and
while they describe how FI systems use an asymmetrical
oscillation
pattern to shift mixture ratios, they don't address
the differences in
O2 sensors.  Certainly with all the different part
number O2 sensors
produced, there must be differences other than the
type of plugs or
heaters.
