Subject: Head gasket sealant.

Volks:

Well, I am about half-way through a head gasket replacement job on "Miss Blue" my '87 GL Weekender. Both sides were leaking so I have everything disassembled. The pits/crevices in the heads have been J-B Welded and the pits on the engine case are also done. I am about ready to reassemble the engine but I have a question about the sealant.

I ordered the Full gasket set from Bus Depot (BD) and the kit comes with two tubes of sealant. However, both tubes are the same type sealant (labeled Dirko-S) and all the write-ups about head gasket replacement that I have read and the Bentley Manual refer to using different types of sealant on the gaskets (black sealant) and head nuts (yellow sealant). Does anyone know if this Dirko-S sealant can be used on both the gaskets and the head nuts, or do I use the Dirko on the gaskets only and have to get a different type of sealant for the head nuts? I have some time before I need to get Miss Blue back on the road but would like to get things finished up anyway. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dan Weber "Miss Blue" '87 GL Weekender
