Subject: ack ... idle difficulty..

Hey Folks,

Last night I was driving around town (at 11pm with ac on to stay cool) in Portland, when I came to a stop at a light.

As I sat at the light, my idle was ....sputtering. I did not stall, it was a weak, sputtering idle. Up and down.

"wrrrrr wrrrrr wrrrrr wrrrrr wrrrrr

I don't have a tach so I am not sure the RPMs I was at. Below 1000 I'm pretty sure. I sounded very close to stalling ... so I stepped on the gas which helped.

I thought it had to do with the fact that I had my AC on, tho it made no difference when I switched it off.

When I gave it a little gas (just slightly stepped on the gas pedal) the engine would rev back up to what sounded like a "normal" 1100 rpm idle. No more up and down. Sound was level and constant.

I am going to drop it off here soon to have it looked at, but I thought I would solicit your ideas first, so I might have some info to go in with.

Any ideas? Timing? Tune up time? F.I.'s? Computer of some sort? I hope it's something simple that can be adjusted or replaced if it's just a matter of age. It's the original engine, 2.1L with 105k miles on it.

Feel free to email me directly if you like.

thanks much, dave bowers Portland, Oregon 1986 Westy 105k "G2"
