As a temporary means I would suggest unplugging the motors from their harness in the door. Be sure to also disconnect the rod linking the actuating arm to the lock/lock button. If something should happen and the timing gear inside stops @ any other position that TDC or TBC, you might have a bit of a struggle getting it unlocked. There is a compensator spring in the actuating arm that allows the lock to move if this happens, but if yours are like mine those springs have solidified over the years and need replaced.

I had to do this to the power locks in our '87 Westy. The rubber bellows on the actuating arms were disintegrating and too much moisture had gotten in and reduced the springs under the contacts to green powder. The motors were still good and strong, so I decided to rebuild them. I had to fab new boots to seal the top end of the mechanism, though. I can send pix and describe what I did if anyone is interested.

It sure is nice to push down on one lock at bedtime and hear the whole van lock up tight, or being able to lock one door when in the parking lot and knowing that the whole van is secure.

Speaking of secure...anyone install a security system on a Westy before??? Just curious.

Thanks! Rod '87 Westy -"Wally"

Does anyone know how to disable electronic door locks so the locks will only operate manually? Is it simply removing a fuse, or would I need to disconnect the motors in the doors? I'd like to do this as a temporary measure so it's possible to enable the electronic operation in the future. Thanks for the help.
