If I'm not mistaken, disconnecting the 02 sensor causes the ECU to run in
"default" mode, shunting other signal inputs as well.  This means that the
02 sensor itself may or may not be the cause of the problem, even if
disconnecting it makes the van run better.  While this "fix" might suffice
on a short term basis, I think you need to identify and repair the actual
problem rather than keeping the ECU in this mode over the long haul.
