Nice Mark, very nice. Thats some gloss finish, I'd be afraid to go near in case I saw a reflection of my ugly mug!

As soon as I saw the piccies, the phrase 'boundary-layer splitter-plate' came to mind (a la Concorde air intake), but unles its at the back of a train at road speeds (where the boundary layer can be a foot thick) don't worry (hey, its a windup).

If you are getting much better cooling, then this is because the original intake at this position is not particularly good - effectively its in a low pressure region (fairly obvious) and has a (bit of) a boundary layer build up by then too (low energy air).

I can easily believe 100 hours has gone into these. Not my thing though, I'm too old for such way out looks, and over here, one doesn't want to attract too much attention - some young turk'll think its smart to run a key down the side of the van - jealousy.

Wishing you good fortune with these, if I needed an intercooler or oil cooler that worked at the back - perfect - I'd snap one up tomorrow.

Cheers,

Clive

Hi 'yall,

1) Okay...does anyone know where I can post pictures of these things so anyone/everyone can look at them? So far about 9 of you have responded and I've sent pics to all but that's a lot of work...it would be a lot easier if we had somewhere to post pics like the diesel list. 2) Got the molds back from the moldmaker today. Way cool ... of course I'm somewhat biased on this point seeing as I have about 100 hours involved in getting the project to this point. I'll be making the first scoops for myself any day. 3) I know they work. When I had an earlier prototype on the van last summer it dropped the temperature of the oil coming out of the aftermarket oil cooler 10-15 degrees cruising down the highway at 70 mph. That's pretty good in an intercooled 1.9 turbo-diesel van where the oil typically runs about 220 at that speed when ambient air temperature is 80-90 and turbo boost is about 8 lbs. I'll be interested to see what the scoop pulling air through the intercooler does.

Mark Thoma
