Hi, I have an 87 Syncro that I want to put a side tent on. The trick is that I have a Shady Boy awning and a Yakima roof rack that must stay put. I understand that the standard intallation of these side tents is in the rain gutters. This would not work for me due to the awning and rack. I have also seen the set up such as the one offered by Eurocampers that does not use gutters but instead sends guy lines over to the other side (the "Kommet" model). My question is.....What will work for me with no rain gutters available and the other stuff on top? Is a tent even possible like this?? <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Randy -

I guess it depends on how many bungie cords you want to use!

I have a side tent (for sale). The flap that hooks to the gutter is 84" wide, but if I were going to hook it up to your van, I would add a couple of grommets in the right places to put a bungie cord around your Shady Boy case and/or Yakima rack, then use one at the back and one at the front to hoof to the luggage rack and pop-top hinge.

If it's not a camper, you could still bungie the middle and run lines over the top for the front and back.

If you want to do this with the Shady Boy extended, you would need a different system.

By the way, how does your Shady Boy handle breezy to windy days?
