I bought an '87 Westy last week that was owned by an older couple who were
obviously frugal.  The headlight adjusters were broken.  The owner replaced
them with corks that had been drilled out to receive an adjusting bolt.  The
corks were stuck in the holes from the rear and the bolts entered from the
front expanding the cork to fit tightly in the hole.   I was replacing the
fan resistor at the time.  The headlights were tight and aimed properly so
I'm not changing anything until I need to.
