As you know, the original caps are NLA.  The inlet must be replaced with the
new style inlet.  Something I did for a while until I bought a new inlet was
found at a boating/sporting goods store.  I bought a plug that goes in the
bottom of a boat to drain the water from the bilge.  There are several
types, but the one I bought has a small handle that you turn to expand the
diameter of the rubber plug.  I found this fit in the inlet and could be
tightened sufficiently to fit tight in the hole.

As a side note, I have looked into going into limited production on a
replacement locking cap.  It would run about $35.  I didn't get much
interest in it a few years ago.  Any interest now?  No promises....just
testing the waters.
