When I replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump, I used a pair of channel-lock pliers with long handles for maximum leverage.

A trick I use is to try to loosen the fastener enough to coax it to a place where I can get a good grip on it, then I slide it down the line in one swift motion.

Remember your PENCILS for the fuel lines when you do this. :)
