I just put some of these on my 86 van. I am pretty happy with them. I
used the hardware provided. The rubber is very heavy, and fits the vanagon
fender almost perfectly. Mine are pretty much parallel with the
earth. They certainly don't look crooked. I just threw up. I mean, I
just threw up a quickie web page with some photos that might help you
install them with the stock fasteners. I guess I am not real fond of the
stock fastening system, and may replace the clips both front and rear with
screws into the fender lip as others have done. The bracket in the rear is
good though, and the bolt in the front is also good. Here's the link:
