yup. got a new coil, too. (the old one still worked, but the resistance on it was way too high)

sometimes* i wish i had a toyota,

or anything with half-assed reliability. *groan*

tried beating the battery ground terminal down more. (took it loose to resolder the connection to the alternator (dad did the soldering) )

that made teh dash lights brighten a lot. for some reason the freaking cables have to be just right.

we will see if that stops it dying.

(*actually, most of the time)

please tell me i am not alone in wanting to beat up the engineers that designed the vanagon

a vanagon with a replacement engine and transmission isn't so bad. but i am beginning to absolutely hate the waterboxer engine and both the auto and manual trans's. incredibly problematic garbage. all of it. garbage garbage garbage. absolutely crap-tastic junk.

when they could no longer make the air cooled engine meet the emissions they should have just replaced with with a decent engine in the first place.

truthfully, i think using an air cooled engine as late as the 80s was incredibly stupid. they shoulda switched to water cooling a long time before they did.

</rant>

i guess i'm not a good vanagon person eh? it comes from being repeatedly stuck on the side of the road.
