There could possibly be a circuit breaker added by some PO -- not a fuse since once they blow they don't recover.

I'm afraid you're going to have to resort to the desperate measure of tracing the circuit and finding out where the problem is...How much current is the pump drawing? Does it draw more, less, none when it stops? Is there voltage at the faucet switch? Is there voltage at the pump connections (inside "secret" compartment)?
