The white one keeps the crude from the tank from getting into the pump. They're cheap. I know I can get a Purolator for my '85. Just replace it.

Hi Folks,

While I was doing a basic tune up on my 1986 Westy, I noticed my van has 2 fuel filters.

1. closest to the center gas tank, small square white plastic in line filter.

2. Fosters beer can sized Bosh fuel filter 14" further back, closest to engine.

When I went to buy my tune up parts, the shop I was at said "you can take the white plastic one out, it doesn't do much. The Bosch filter does a great job on it's own." The mechanics name (at Heckman Theeman Motors in Portland) is Hans, and it was hard not to take his word for it. His accent had me sold on he knew what he was talking about. :) Very helpful folks there.

Anyhow, just curious if any other Westy owners have/use the 2 fuel filter option too? My friend with the exact same 1986 gold westy as mine also has 2 ffs. Any idea why there might be 2 filters?

for the sake of simplicity, I am going to take the extra white one out.

Just curious,

db -- dave bowers Portland, Oregon 1986 Westy "G2"
