As far as I know it is just the two alenhead bolts - I've never noticed there is any trick to having it seat correctly. You do want to check the torque on the bolts after you have driven a ways.

Could it be that this part is dofferent between syncros and 2wd vans and you have the wrong one? I have noticed that this connection does not seem all that "sturdy" but I don't think it has that much load on it.
