If you really want to buy a "Vanagon" which was born more recently, and still has a diesel motor in it, you may want to take a look at http://www.ebay.de in the cars section, and run a search on "T3 diesel" to pull up all the vans and van related items that are diesel.

Just quickly taking a look I came up with a 1990 with a 1.8 liter diesel motor:

Yes, I know... everything is in German. But there are pictures, and numbers, and it is actually fun to see all the different European busses.
