I am a newbie to the list and, being mechanically challenges, it is a warm and cozy feeling to be near the vanagon world. I have recently bought a 85 weekender and have done quite a bit of work (The Bug Shop, Blacksburg, VA) since purchasing. The van is running great, not leaking a bit of oil and meticulously being taken care of. The guy I bought it from bought it new in 85 so it has had much TLC.

Anyway, just as I had all the kinks worked out, there is a problem that is getting progressively worse, lack of power and hesitation at intersections and take offs. This is extremely frustrating in a line of traffic or pulling out of a "T" and getting some crazy looks.

Symptoms: 1) Upon hesitation, the engine still runs but feels like it is not getting air or gas 2) hesitation lasts for about 3-4 seconds, getting worse by the day 3) The throttle cable is in good shape, wide open but something is choked. 4) does not seem electrical because it seems to be struggling, not completely off????

I think the compression and everything with the block is o.k. because the engine runs so smoothly and no leakage???? I plan on checking this soon. Thanks for any direction on this, I will get to the point in future mail.
