Subject: Another Type IV
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I'm getting ready to rebuild another Type IV tomorrow. Needless to say I've got all the parts together, head ports cleaned out just a smidgeon, rods reconditioned, new cam and lifters, Kolbensvhmidt bearings, NOS OEM VW cylinder piston Set with German rings. I'm going to notch the rods http://www.dolphinsci.com/typeIV.html I've got a Porsche Type IV windage tray to install and I'm going to hone the cylinders out for a looser fit before I assemble it. Got any great FuFu stuff I can do before I bolt it up? I haven't got a clue where I'm going to use this engine, guess its just a spare for no reason at all. I know I won't be able to resist installing it in my Westy just to see if the windage tray, rod notching and porting really makes the Type IV run cooler. It is rumored that the windage tray and cooler running can give you an extra 10 hp. (nobody I ever heard of proved it).

Bill M.
