Yes, it is a PITA, but the more often you do it the easier it becomes. Replace the original sheer bolts on the steering column with standard ones and it makes the job easier next time. To remove these, I cut a grove in the bolt with a mini-grinder and used a screw driver. Worked a treat!

First time round it took me a couple of hours to remove and re-install. Next time 30 mins max.
