hmm beg to differ I have an 82 that was a 5 spd until it blew up.

I used the ACW tranny that came with my '90. I used the '83 carrier bars. The '83 diesel had the 5-spd. which is the same length as the ACW. The tranny that came on the '82 diesels was the shorter 4-spd.
