Dennis, What, in your opinion, is the permissible "play" in the transmission shift lever bushing? That's the one that is on the shaft, within the casing, which is activated by the exterior ball. The seal in my "donor" transmission is in need of replacement, and it appears that leakage in the seal may have been caused by the play in the bushing. As you wrote to me sometime earlier in the year, the seal can be replaced with the transmission installed. Is it possible to replace the bushing in the same situation, that is, from the exterior, with the transmission installed? It appears to me not to be possible. I have a newly-acquired Sears/Lisle seal remover tool ($6.99), a superb item, by the way, with which I can remove, readily, the old seal. Thanks. Regards, Tom Hanlon Palm Springs, CA 84 Westfalia |
