Just to speak from the opposite side. I have a single, 2 barrel progressive Solex carb on my Canadian 91 syncro westy and I am very pleased with it.There is no perceptible difference in how the van runs, and I get the same MPG as other syncro westies. I had the emissions recorded and posted the results to the list ( http://gerry.vanagon.com/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=ind0005B&L=vanagon&P=R30979 ) As I recall it was not so 'dirty'. Also, any emissions study will have to include all of the diagnostics & replacement of EFI stuff (that constitutes about 20% of the discussion on this list). also carbs 'wear' slowly over time and don't 'break' so I hope to get some warning prior to being stranded.
