Yes, most people with other cars don't carry tools, but most other cars can't be fixed on the side of the road anyway -- if my Honda breaks down, odds are it's not going to be something I can fix in a rest area parking lot. Most people in that situation just have their car towed to the nearest dealer, but for most VW's that's not an option. VW dealers don't want to see anything over 7 years old. I see lots of abandoned Chevys and Fords and Oldsmobiles along the freeway, here. Breakdowns arenot an experience only had by VW owners. ANd you know, you're less likely to hear from the guy who took a 3,000 mile trip in his VW and didn't break down than you are from the guy whose engine blew up in Podunk. But, you know, no one's forcing you to drive a Veedub.
