Don't wait for another birthday to replace your Oxs. It is one of the primary pieces of your fuel injection system, telling the 'computer' whether the mixture is lean or rich. Today, you are using the lame 'limp home' program, which allows the van to go forward even without this critical pice of hardware. If your mileage improved with it disconnected, buy a new one, then check the tune of your motor. Keep in mind, VW doesn't put unnecessary parts on their cars.

But. On the way to the camp out, I felt a buck and loss of power. I've had this before and it was the OXS sensor. I stopped and checked the connections. Started up fine and ran fine for a mile or so. Then it came back. Rather than ruin the day hunting for a flaps, I disconnected it. The engine ran well and the gas mileage improved over normal. SO what am I doing? Belching smog? Running too rich or lean without knowing it. Can I take my time getting another or is this not the real problem.
